Fijit Friends Playdate Premiere Party

August 10, 2011

Just when you think you’ve seen every toy imaginable, Mattel finds a way to surprise you once again.

Have you heard of a Fijit?

If not, don’t feel bad – I hadn’t either.  (And can I just say:  I LOVE my job!  Mom Bloggers get the coolest gigs — and if you don’t believe me, ask my girls!)

Thanks to the awesome folks at Mom Central and Mattel, my 3 girls and I got to play with Fijits.  That is, two new “friends” arrived in the mail recently – Willa and Sage (there are 2 more Fijit Friends, too:  Logan and Serafina).

Honestly, when I opened the box, I really didn’t know what to expect.

Turns out that Fijits are a curious hybrid of a mini-robot, cute figurine, and BFF.  I’m not kidding – check it out:

What do Fijits do, you ask?

Thanks to Mom Central and Mattel, my three girls and I held a little party to introduce our Fijits to our friends and neighbors.  Check out these amazing little creatures:

And Fijits *LOVE* to dance!

Hard to see, or not showing up in your browser?  You can find each of these video segments on my YouTube Channel right here!

AS you can see, the kids were extremely entertained.  There were more continuous giggles than at any other activities I’ve seen these kids at, and each child was truly intrigued how Willa talked right “to” them.  I have to admit:  each child thought getting to interact with a Fijit was really quite cool!

Mattel was generous enough to give us TWO Fijits, so we gave one away as a raffle at our party.  Dylan and Kayla were the lucky winners!  (And I hear Dylan and Sage do EVERYTHING with together, from snuggling in bed at night to vacationing in Northern Wisconsin!)

A Little Glitch

I wouldn’t feel right not sharing with you one little problem some of the kids had with our Fijit, Willa.

Willa responded correctly to the kids talking to her about 70% of the time.  There were times that she did not seem to “hear” the tone of the kids’ voices.  Even my 10-year-old, my extremely articulate Claire, couldn’t seem to get Willa to respond to her “who’s there?” in a knock-knock joke sequence.

Overall, though, all the kids in attendance at our party – most of whom are in the 6 – 7-year-old age range, was absolutely fully engaged with Willa throughout her entire repertoire.  Despite the occasional “hearing” issue, Willa was a huge hit!
