My Multi-lingual Daughters

September 24, 2010

Recently, Kate, my first grader, was telling us all at the dinner table how excited she was to have Spanish class this year.  Hubby and I were being encouraging and telling her how great it was going to be, that she’d be learning another language already.

Our resident know-it-all (aka Claire), was interrupting everyone, trying to tell all of us the exact curriculum of Senora M’s first grade Spanish class.  Amy was watching all of us thoughtfully, chewing her supper in relative peace.

And then my little, stout, almost-4-year-old broke her silence.  With a look of sudden excitement lighting up her face, she exclaimed, “Kate!!  Now you’ll be able to speak Spanish just like me and Dora!”

If only it were that easy.
