You know how sometimes life sweeps you off in a certain direction, and you lose touch with a few folks who you enjoy regularly communing with? Well, that’s what’s happened with me and the blog lately. But… now, I’m back.
Early July is a bit of a whirlwind for our family. First, we celebrate Kate’s birthday. This involved process requires approximately three parties, to ensure everyone who wants to celebrate the joy that is our Pixie has his/her chance.
We have another party planned for this coming weekend (for hubby’s side of the family), so check back early next week for additional photo documentation.
Second, we happily participate in the celebrating the freedom of our country. We pause to honor those who sacrificed for our way of life, and for those who continue to dedicate themselves to keeping us free. (FYI, in case you missed these, you can read about my proverbial two cents here and here.) I will be the first to admit that the United States has endless problems, and that we have a lot of major issues facing us that we are not handling very well. At all. Frankly, I am terrified that greed (the corporate version leading the way in an unprecedented, nauseating fashion) and “political correctness” are actively creating our demise as I type.
BUT: I remember Oprah once saying that women born in the U.S. are among the most fortunate women in the entire world. We have rights, opportunities, and safeties that women in other cultures cannot even begin to imagine. As a mother of three girls, I would be ignorant and downright stupid not to acknowledge and celebrate those very important facts.
Third, our family celebrates MY birthday. Hard to believe, but I am 42 this year. Forty-two going on about 9 some days; 42 going on 71, others. My kids gave me beautiful and fun cards, a yummy-smelling candle, a package of York Peppermint Patties (one of my faves!), and a nice supper out of the house. Sponsored by hubby, of course. And hubby created a lovely photo collage for me that I will treasure forever.
30-day Blogging Challenge
I have been following my friend, Queen Jackie, in her blog http://queenofconnect.blogspot.com. Queen Jackie does a really nice job of focusing on the internal motivations and habits that drive our outer lives. While I, too, am often very introspective, I am rarely courageous enough to be (a) open about it, and (b) share it in any public way. (Incidentally, while I have great respect for the inner goddess/royalty concept that Jacqueline Gates talks about here, I am convinced that my current rank is somewhere between Scullery Maid and Kitchen Maid. Ugh.)
So, I’m going out on a bit of a limb here.
And I’m hoping you’ll kind of hang around and watch me, visiting the blog regularly. And please don’t try to jiggle the branch I am clinging to.
I commit to blogging for 30 days straight. This means 30 days of – who the heck knows? Backyard wildlife. Kid antics. Kids “acting up.” Deep (or will it be desperate…?) thoughts from a SAHM/unemployed writer who needs to find something to do very soon to start creating an income.
Honestly, I’m not sure what this challenge will bring. But since it should be good for at least a few laughs along the way, please come back daily to see what the abc family and I are cooking up. Me and my traffic stats would be totally ecstatic. And indebted to you. And who knows where said enthusiasm and indebtedness might lead!
Lastly, if there are any topics you’d like to read about, please feel free to tell me about it. Leave your ideas/requests in the comments section, below, or email me at admin [at] abrokencompass [dot] com.
And come back tomorrow! PLEASE!
