Happy 2010!

January 1, 2010

I cannot be the only one to be astounded that it’s 2010 already, but here it is, January 1 of a new year — a new decade, actually — with the renewed opportunity to write the wrong date on my checks again for the next several months.  All kidding and sarcasm aside, I sincerely hope you and yours have many highlights to look back upon from 2009, and even more good things to look forward to in the coming year.

Today’s post is simply tying up a few loose ends I’ve realized I’ve left you with over the past few weeks.  I figured it wasn’t fair – or very nice – to ramble and rant about something, and then never describe/share the result or outcome.  (hopefully none of that sounds too narcissistic…)

Potty Training

I had made Amy’s potty-training process such a huge focus of daily posts for awhile, and lately I’ve said nothing about it.  I’m sure that after reading each new blog entry you’re left not only wondering how my genius creative writing skills have been unpublished for the past four decades, but also curious as to why I’ve not mentioned Amy’s progress for quite awhile.  Set your bated-breath on the back burner, as I’m about to let loose with the latest news on that front.

Amy has done AWESOME for the past month or so with consistently going #1 on the toilet, exactly as she’s been trained to do.  I have already started to take this for granted, and goodness knows, I shouldn’t, give the pain we all endured to get to this point.  Congratulations, my dearest little girl – you’ve come a long way baby!!

As for handing #2 with equivalent success, no so much.  BUT.  She is showing marked improvement with each passing week.  She still doesn’t LIKE going on the toilet for this particular elimination activity, and about one-third of the time, she resorts to pooping in her pants.  Again, however, this is a big improvement from where we were a few short weeks ago, so again, Yeah Amy!!

Hypokalemia

As I had noted here, I’d been recently diagnosed with an extremely low potassium (K) level.  I was quite freaked out by this, as it wasn’t explainable in any way, and it definitely can be fatal.  My last blood test was Christmas Eve Day, and I received the results this past Monday.  My number is now at the lowest of the normal range – so apparently the K supplement and those intravenous treatments I had are finally building up my body’s store of this critical mineral/electrolyte.

I’m scheduled for another blood test later next week.  If there’s any important news to share, rest assured I’ll fill you in.

NaBloPoMo – January

This month I am again undertaking the challenge of blogging every day.  The theme of this month’s challenge is “Best,” though one doesn’t have to use the theme.  So be sure to tune in click my link daily for a little slice of the drama-and-humor-interspersed-with-disproportionate-pain-and-contrived-hysteria that is my life.  Relatedly, I’m hoping to figure out how to get the NaBloPoMo “badge” to show up on my website, but really, I simply hope I can actually accomplish that before January sends us into February with a nasty windchill.

And… She’s Off!

[and yes, the duality of this subhead isn't a mistake]

Alrighty then, it’s off to cocktail-and-movie-time with my beloved hubby.  Again, I wish each of you a happy, peaceful start to 2010!
