Hands Full

January 19, 2010

My Own Little Amelia Bedelia

You may remember me mentioning that my doctor’s office has a fish tank that Amy likes to examine upon our every visit.  (Still cannot figure out the cause of the ongoing hypokalemia.)  While admiring the fish yesterday, she asked if she could please get her own fish.  I told her that while that sounded really fun, “we have our hands full at home” at this time, and we do not need to take on anything else to feed or clean up after.  She looked down at my hands, which were holding her jacket and my purse.  Then she looked at her own hands, which were empty, and said, “Mom, your hands are full, but mine aren’t.  So when can I get my fish?”

Oh, in case you were wondering, we continue to be possum free.  This is undoubtedly because all the possums siblings and extended family who live in a two-mile radius either witnessed or heard about the atrocity that occurred last week.  Such cruelty visited upon their species has led them to make the wise choice to stay away from our home.

While this may be hard to believe, I’ve been putting off quite [...]

Unremarkable Day #563, with a Few Moments of Black Humor to Keep Us All Awake

January 4, 2010

Today wasn’t at all like I thought it was going to be.  Here, in no particular order, are a few of the highlights. Kate had one of her little episodes of stomach-flu-type symptoms.  By about 11:30 a.m., she was starting the dry heaves, and I pulled out my super-powerful – albeit super-expensive – generic Zofran.  [...]

Vacation Ends

January 3, 2010

Today was our last day together.  That is, tomorrow our little family will be heading off in their various directions; hubby heads back to work, Claire and Kate head back to school.  Amy and I will be spending the day together, and I have some new ideas as to how to give her a little [...]
